Lighter 1 is engraved with an excerpt from Fire by Emily Dickinson:
...Fire exists the first in light,
And then consolidates, —
Only the chemist can disclose
Into what carbonates.
Lighter 2 is engraved with an excerpt from The Alchemist by Louise Bogan:
I burned my life, that I might find
A passion wholly of the mind,
Thought divorced from eye and bone,
Ecstasy come to breath alone.
I broke my life, to seek relief
From the flawed light of love and grief.
Engraved deadstock lighter cases were originally used as Rebekah Bide calling cards at the 2018 Goldsmiths' BA Fine Art and History of Art Graduate show.
